I came back from two weeks of media free vacation to another outcry over Facebook privacy settings. After a bit of investigating . . . I determined that they aren’t doing anything all that wrong, as long as they’re held to the same standard that we hold most sites and systems to.
However, Facebook needs to have a higher standard. Whether or not they like it or accept it, they are the flagship for social media. If there is a privacy breach, it will set back all f social media not just Facebook. If the average person doesn’t trust Facebook, they won’t trust any social networks. Facebook needs to set the standard for the industry and not just follow accepted practices.
